Welcome to Desmond Harris - our new Head Chef
We are delighted to welcome Desmond Harris to the position of Head Chef at the Restaurant and Bar. Desmond has an impressive career history, holding the position of Head Chef for the last six years at the multi-award winning Logan Brown restaurant, recent winner of Cuisine magazine Award for second best metropolitan restaurant in New Zealand.

Having worked exclusively in city restaurants, he is excited by the opportunity to create an ever-changing menu of modern and contemporary food using classical French techniques at the Hotel. He said “Clean and honest food will be a staple at The Restaurant and Bar and I look forward to building strong relationships with local suppliers and boutique food producers to create a menu that showcases the best of the region”.

Those dining at The Restaurant will enjoy a sumptuous food and wine experience that is purely European in flavour and reflective of the seasonal produce of the Wairarapa.  The Bar menu will be distinctly different yet share the same food philosophy – ‘smart dishes’ that allow fresh flavours to shine through and speak for themselves.

New Look for Restaurant
The Restaurant has undergone a sleek refurbishment where guests will find themselves ensconced in a richly decorated and refined dining room that has a distinct air of faded grandeur combined with lush furnishings.

Two magnificent chandeliers provide the sparkling centerpiece to the room, which is enhanced by high ceilings with intricate plasterwork above and the warm glow of aged native hardwood floors below, laid “without expense” in 1882.

A host of elegant details are guaranteed to delight with tables clothed in crisp white linen, fine glassware and a collection of framed wine labels adorning the walls throughout the 40 seater dining space.

Settlers Bar is re - born!
The Hotel’s famed Bar has been lovingly refurbished into a separate and comfortable space where locals and guests alike can pull a chair up to the grand antique oak table or gather round one of the wine barrels in front of the cosy fire.

The green and chocolate walls are hung with photos of historic Martinborough and memorabilia like old wool bale stencils reflecting the importance of the huge sheep stations which led to the town’s establishment. The barrels and bar shelves, well stocked with local wine pay homage to the area’s most recent history as one of New Zealand’s top wine-growing regions.

Come and enjoy dinner from Desmond's new menu or just a drink or two! Bar Manager, Leith Harley and his team will be delighted to see you.
